MAYOR Kevin Kiely has come out in support of the vintner’s application to the District Court for a special exemption on Good Friday for rugby fans.

He has called for a change in the licensing laws, which prohibit the sale of alcohol on Good Friday and Christmas Day.

The Leinster versus Munster rugby game to be played on Good Friday at Thomond Park is a sell-out match.

The Mayor has written a letter of support to accompany the Vintners' Federation application to the Court.

Munster rugby matches at Thomond Park can be worth up to €10m to city businesses.
